Going a new puppy for your house is going to be one of the most wonderful decisions you will ever make. The joy and pleasure that a puppy can bring to a new household, especially one with children in it, is something that cannot be understated. However, it is also true to say that you need to be aware of all of the problems that a puppy can bring along with it. I puppy is going to really cause you a lot of stress in many ways, and they will take years in some cases to gain maturity. As such it is a decision that cannot be taken lightly, and some people will want to simply adopt a adult dog instead. However, if you have your heart set on a puppy, here are a couple of thoughts on giving a puppy a new home.

There are lots of things that you have to consider before you do bring a puppy into your household. Never say that you have not been warned, and that you are not aware of the effort that you are going to have to put in.

The first consideration that you will need to make ears whether the puppy is entirely healthy when you go and get it. It is not uncommon to find puppies in kennels that have certain physical problems associated with them, and if this is not what you want then you should look elsewhere.

The next thing to do will be to make sure that the puppy is socialised. The natural traits of any puppy are to be very playful and friendly. However, it can sometimes be difficult for a puppy to show the signs if they are indeed somewhat restricted confines of a dog shelter. As such you should definitely make sure that you take a few minutes at least play with the puppy as much as possible and to try to drag its personality out.

You really need to check on the puppy’s personality in order to make sure that it is not too aggressive. It is okay to find a puppy that is a little bit reserved and shy, as this is perfectly natural in a shelter. However, finding a puppy that is overly aggressive is not going to be the best thing to do.

The last thing that you really need to look into is the breed of the puppy. In many cases you will already know exactly what sort of breed you are after, and the breed is also going to be a serious indication of how the puppy will behave and act as they get older.

These are just some thoughts on adopting a new puppy.

It is not always a good idea to choose a dog based on how cute you think it is. Rather, there are many important things to consider before choosing a dog breed or before deciding what type of dog to get. Since a dog will inexorably become part of your family, you should be careful in selecting one because otherwise you may have a mismatch.

Families that are young and distracted by many different activities may want to look for a smaller breed. Smaller dogs like Chihuahuas, Jack Russell Terriers, and Pugs may be more appropriate because they cannot reach high areas in the way that other dogs can. If a child absentmindedly places a ham sandwich on the edge of a kitchen counter, a Labrador may steal it while a toy poodle cannot.

Smaller dogs may also be safer for children than other, larger dog breeds. These breeds have smaller jaws and teeth, so if they do bite it is likely to be only a minor wound. While training has a lot to do with the violence level of a dog, parents may be more comfortable having a smaller dog around their children than a larger one. Children also have a tendency to play rough with dogs, which may make the dogs act out in unusual ways.

Medium-sized dogs are great for older families that want more protection from their dog but do not want to have to worry about the dangers or mishaps associated with larger dogs. Medium dogs include Beagles, Cocker Spaniels, and Corgis. These breeds are often adorable, yet they do offer some protection. They do not offer the protection of larger dogs, however.

Large dogs are very good at protecting homes, yet they can also be loyal companions. They are great for families that are very organized and are good at keeping important items out of reach of the dog. These dogs are fun because they are so large that it is almost like having another human being in the house. Large breeds include Golden Retrievers, Great Danes, Labradors, and German Shepherds.

Of course, everyone has a different set of preferences when it comes to dog breeds. Some breeds bark more than others, and some are more trainable than others. The most important thing, then, is that the dog that you choose will fit perfectly into your family.

No matter what kind of dog breed you choose, training is an important aspect of how the dog will act. In some ways, training is more important than the size of the dog. With good enough training, a large dog may leave food and other treats within reach alone. This means that some of the advantages of certain dog breeds and types may be extended to other breeds through extensive training.

The basis of the theme can be on a number of different things, but most of the time, it is related to the breed of dog or the country from which your breed of dog originated. Sometimes it may be a combination of the two. For instance, a sheep dog would look grand in a collar specific to its country of origin; Ireland. Something like a collar made of green leather or nylon emblazoned with a shamrock-shaped design. A Scottish terrier may wear a pet collar with a plaid design that matches his plaid coat and hat.

Designer dog collars and leashes come in a variety of sizes, shapes and price ranges. Many times these types of pet accessories are based on a certain theme. One of the most popular ways to outfit your pet is by designing a collar to match the origin of the breed.

Not surprisingly, quite often owners are more occupied with making a personal statement about themselves and their dog by matching them with their own preferences. Although these tastes might not appeal to everyone, for the owner of the pampered pet, it really is the ideal way to display who they are and how they feel about their dog. For example, let’s take a look at poodles. If the female owner of a poodle loves the color pink, she might search out a customized dog collar in a wonderful shade of pink.

The pet collar might also have decoration that goes with the owner’s own collection of jewelry. There are also the hardcore biker types who like to outfit their dogs with matching black leather and spiked dog collars; things that go with their particular biker wardrobe. Don’t you know there will be a designer collar out there for almost anyone with any kind of dog, from a mutt to a purebred? Many of these dog owners like to dress their pooches every day and treat them as a member of the family. It appears that dressing and coordinating their dog takes nearly as much effort as it does to dress themselves.

Designer dog collars are all the rage among pet owners who want to show off their unique sense of style through their dog. If you can imagine it, then there is a collar on the market for your pooch. There are dog collars that feature tattoo motifs, camouflage, animal prints, natural fibers and spikes. The collar market features something for everyone and every pet on your buying list.

To give your dog a sense of style and unique sophistication, there are a number of boutique websites that cater to your and your pet’s desires. You can find designer dog collars at www.trendypuppy.com or even www.gucci.com. They offer a wide selection of creative, funky, unusual and unique styles of pet collars in a stunning array of colors and sizes.

Dog collars can be made from a wide variety of materials. The cheapest collars are typically made from synthetic materials. A leather dog collar is more expensive but is made to last longer.

Understanding why the best mange home remedy for dog mange works is an article that explains the scientific principles that allow certain home made remedies to relieve the suffering caused by mange.

In cage DL the newest arrival quivers from painful itching, and when the dog cannot tolerate the itching any longer it bites another patch of dried skin. Up to now, attempts to control the dryness and itching have not worked. Do homemade remedies work? How do the dogs react to side effects? Can these remedies bring back a shiny coat? These questions occupy the thoughts of pet owners.

Borax And Hydrogen Peroxide As A Remedy

One remedy, a hydrogen peroxide and borax solution, drills down into the skin, dries out then kills the parasite that causes mange. It kills the unseen cause of this skin disease. The peroxide seeps in, pulls in the borax and borax kills the parasite. The exact formula for this doggy dip is, well, inexact. But, between four and eight teaspoons of borax poured into one liter (or one quart) of hydrogen peroxide and stirred until the borax dissolves make a very nice doggy dip. Simply said, just pour some borax powder into a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and stir them together. And yes this is the same borax powder our great, great grandmothers used to wash their laundry clothes.

But there are many, many caveats. Here are the top seven caveats. Do not splash this solution in the eyes of a person or dog. Do not drink this solution yourself and do not let other people drink and do not let a dog drink this solution. Do not use boric acid because boric acid is too poisonous; use only borax powder. Do not use hydrogen peroxide that is stronger than one percent concentration (the percent is written on the hydrogen peroxide bottle.) If you cannot find one percent hydrogen peroxide then just get one gallon (or four liters) of water and pour two to four cups of borax powder into the water and then stir. Do not use any other form or type of peroxide; only use hydrogen peroxide.

Let the sun and wind dry the solution that you pour on the dog. Pour the solution onto the skin of the dog that has the mange disease in the skin. Do this daily or weekly for thirty days in a row. Let the mangy patch of skin stay wet until it dries by itself.

Soap And Mange

Another best home treatment for mange is water that is mildly soapy. Soap with water drowns tiny bugs. The amount of soap dissolved in the water should be one part per hundred (one percent). One cup of soap added to ninety nine cups of water creates a one part per hundred concentration. Two cups of soap per ninety eight cups of water make a two parts per hundred concentration. A century ago people used a one or two percent solution of soapy water to kill tiny insects. Do not rinse off the soapy water from your dog until five or ten minutes have passed. Leaving the soap to sit drowns insects on skin and inside the fur.

Oil Treatment For Mange

Another best home remedy applies oily substances lathered on mangy mutts. Basically, oil deprives insects of air and suffocates them. Oil in different forms is commonly found in the home. Butter, margarine, hair grease, fat meat grease, safflower oil, corn oil, baby oil, mineral oil, castor oil, soybean oil, olive oil, and sunflower oil will smother insects. Mint oil at four percent concentration kills insects like an insecticide and should never be used for animal use. Neem oil is a potent substance.

Clean Living Area As A Remedy

Prevent other new parasites from attacking a dog by removing parasites from floors, toys beds, and so forth. Frequent or regular cleaning and washing removes parasites. Whenever bathing the dog, feel with the fingers or look with the eyes. Notice bumps, raw patches, abrasions, rashes, and rough skin. Big leathery patches in dog skin especially legs or ears might be mange.

Science Behind Home Style Treatments

Home style dog care mentioned in this short article conforms to basic principles of the science of pet care. These treatments accomplish the following tasks.

To kill parasites that cannot be seen.

To kill parasites than can be seen.

To prevent new parasites from infesting the host.

External parasites known as mites cause the uncomfortable skin ailment known as mange. Other more well known external parasites are the flea and the mosquito. Mites lodge themselves under the skin where they cannot be easily seen. In summary, the borax and peroxide solution kills the mites under the skin. Oil and soap suffocate and drown any mites on the surface of the skin. Keeping the living are free of mites blocks them from returning to the dog.

How The Best Mange Home Remedy For Dog Mange can help a dog is an article that describes a small selection of home remedies for mange and shows the science that gives them their effectiveness. These four home remedies for mange owe their effectiveness to real science.

Jessie entered the room, the silence was deafening. One new dog face to face with the resident three cats. Thoughts of the battle of Waterloo were sounding in my head, would there be peace in the valley or all hell breaking lose? The four children were spellbound as if frozen in time. Would there be a melt down? I could feel my heart pounding for this was not the homecoming planned. Somehow Ruby, Lucy and Romeo had an esp moment and managed with the help of an open window to place themselves in a strategic position ready for the arrival of Jessie.

The newbie was a poodle, a miniature black as the night with an irresistible nature I was sold in an instant. Blinded by love so soon in this meet I was oblivious to the fact that Jessie had never encountered a cat in his life. Absolutely confidant that Jessie would fit in I had forgotten the many travesties written before of homes turned to battlefields in a fight to the death. My thoughts only fixed on this adorable little guy, my mind so convincing that everything would work out. So why are we standing in front of this door, nobody moving not a sound could be heard.

To my sheer delight Romeo the stray that had turned up and never left put his best paw forward and you could almost hear him saying. “Nice to meet you Jessie, welcome home” This took young Jessie by surprise and he jumped back and banged into the door behind him. Next came Lucy who has always seemed like the favourite Auntie in the house with a resounding meow and walked off as if nothing was amiss. Nothing quite prepared me for what was to come as Ruby the resident Queen of the house let out a horrible sounding hiss and proceeded like a tiger stalking its prey in the direction of Jessie who by now I would say was hoping the ground would swallow him up. Who to grab hold of first, this was my dilemma as I opted for Ruby, as she seemed much closer at the time. A matador facing a charging bull seemed almost a better place to be right now as I lifted the Queen high off the ground in a bid to avoid world war three.

Some moons have passed and we are still all intact no bandages have been needed and no permanent scars. My ginger boy Romeo has been a blessing in disguise, for his first day greeting with Jessie has turned into so much more. The planets were aligning round this perfect romance for these two natural brothers have made friends for this life. My walks with my poodle begin and end with Romeo, who walks with us some of the way then waits our return where we is smiling at this peculiar sight. Lucy is so happy to have a dog pal again as her previous existence was with a dog and a cat. The change in her nature from depression to joy has been a spiritual moment in time and in space..

I wish I could tell you a happy ending took place, but the truth is that Ruby and Jessie can never be a friend. Had there only been one cat and dog in this home I would probably tried to re home Jessie for the sake of those concerned. My family is a mixture of love never shown and my mission is to show a world filled with love. From the books you are given I have learned so much more and with tactic and strategy our family seems content. There are always those moments when the two worlds collide but if mankind can show them a vision of love where all stand together, different but the same.

Pets can be afflicted by an array of parasites and pests. There is typically treatment and preventative measures for all kinds. Ear mites are no different. It is important for pet owners to learn how to treat ear mites in order to keep their pets healthy.

Ear mites are a microscopic organism very similar to dust mites. Unlike the name suggests, these critters can live elsewhere on the body of the animal, not just the ear canal. They are not contagious to humans. However, they are highly contagious to other pets. They are transferred between animals through physical contact with an infected animal.

Pets should have their ears cleaned on a regular basis. Equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water is a good solution for cleaning ears. Washing out the ears with a cotton swab that is lightly damp with this solution is an easy way to clean ears. Be sure to use different swabs per ear. Infections can be spread from one ear to the other if the same swab is used. The ear canal does not need cleaning. Only the parts of the ears that can be seen.

The most common symptoms of mite infestation is that the animal will shake its head or scratch its ears. The more often this happens, the more of an infestation there is. This is due to mites causing an inflammation within the ear canal which irritates the pet. Dried blood, which looks like coffee grounds, can also be a discharge from pet ears. This is another sign of infestation. Sometimes the blood can be fresh and not dry. Pets can also suffer from improper balance and not walking in straight lines. It is similar to humans who have inner ear problems. Mites do not only affect the area of their name, but can be anywhere. However, the animal may or may not be bothered mites that are external.

If the problem is left untreated, animals can get damage to the ear canal and ear drums. This can result in permanent hearing loss. Also, ear infections and skin disease can be a result of infection.

There are different types of over the counter medication that is readily available. These take three to four weeks to treat the problem. They do not have an ingredient in them that kills mite eggs. They typically are a liquid solution.

Prescription medication takes anywhere from ten to fourteen days because it does kill mite eggs. These medications come as drops or injections. They have to be obtained by a veterinarian.

Flea and tick medications, like shampoos and drops, will kill mites that are outside the pets ears. A pet on a flea treatment should not have mites on their body.

If there are multiple pets in the house, it is important to treat all of them simultaneously. This will ensure that all mites are killed and repeat infestations do not occur. Since they are so contagious, if one pet is not treated, the cycle will just keep repeating itself.

If an animal does suffer from repeat infestations, the animal should be taken to the veterinarian. The same is true if the pet has severe symptoms or needs prescription treatment.

This is an easy pest to treat and get rid of. It is important that a pet owner learn how to treat ear mites. This will help keep the pet healthy and prevent more serious damage that could arise when the problem is left untreated.

You are getting a dog for the first time and you are excited. There’s just one thing. You don’t know how to take care of a puppy. What do you do with a puppy? What are its needs?

She will need some sort of protection since she is so small, but how do you do that?

And then there are health concerns. How do you make sure she stays healthy? What things do you have to worry about? Can you take precautions?

You probably never thought of these issues when you fell in love with that bundle of joy.

The first step is to understand what dangers lurk and what you can do to ensure she stays protected and well.

Here are 5 tips to get you started.

1. Make her comfortable. Make a special place for her to sleep. Gather up some safe toys designed for puppies. Soft toys will help to provide the comfort that her littermates would have given her. She also will need tough toys to ease her when she is teething. Yes, puppies teethe, just like babies do.

2. Watch out for potentially hazardous situations throughout your home where she is allowed to go. Puppies are adventurous. They want to check things out. They instinctively test things they don’t understand.

Put all wiring, chemicals, cleaning fluids and the like out of her way. Thoroughly inspect the yard to make sure there are no holes and broken fence parts where she can escape. Get rid of all plants in and around your home that present a danger to dogs. You’ll have to ask your vet or dog expert for a list of what those plants are. One is poinsettias, but there are others that seem innocent but are not.

3. Take time to visit the vet regularly. As a puppy, she will need vaccinations against major diseases like rabies and distemper. Ask your vet what she needs and when. She must remain isolated from other animals until she has completed her series of shots. As well as keeping her vaccinations up to date, the vet can check your puppy to make sure there are no developmental problems as she grows into an adult.

4. Your puppy will need puppy formula. Her body needs more nutrients than she will get from adult dog food. This is vitally important. If she does not get the right food, she can have growth problems, such as deformed joints, and other health issues that can affect her entire future. Speak to your vet to find out what he would suggest you feed your puppy at different stages of development.

5. Always use the right tools, gear and products for your puppy. For example, a rope collar is no guarantee that she can’t be harmed. Choose a proper collar from your local pet store, one that fits properly without choking or slipping off. You will need to upgrade the collar as she grows and becomes stronger. Keep her bed in a warm location, free of drafts. Prolonged exposure to cold can leave her with arthritis as an adult.

We’ve only had time to cover 5 tips on how to take care of a puppy, but there is so much more to know. You will soon discover that your learning will be an ongoing process, especially during her puppy years. What you do now can have a significant impact on your puppy’s life.

You can buy just about anything online these days, cars, groceries, a date, even a new dog. It seems strange but people purchase dogs over the internet all the time. Some from breeders clear across the country. It’s almost the new designer thing to do. Personally, I think it’s ridiculous to purchase a dog across the country when there are so many unwanted dogs right in your own backyard. Why put the poor animal in such a stressful situation for traveling? I think it’s cruel but that’s just my opinion and may not count for much. So, if you are going to purchase a dog, here are some guidelines to help make the experience a little more pleasurable for both of you.

The internet has come a long way but it still can’t quite mimic the experience of actually touching and caressing a dog you may have chosen as a potential pet. All you can do is trust that the person selling the dog is being honest with you about the dog’s temperament and demeanor. A picture says a thousand words but unless you can come face to face and interact with the pup, I’m not really sure how you can be certain that he will make the perfect match for your family. But, I digress again. So, how do you choose a dog based on a picture and a paragraph? How do you know if the seller is reputable or not?

When looking online to purchase a dog, be very wary of an ad that professes to be selling “papered” purebred pups. Does this ad come from a credible licensed breeder or is it just an individual selling his litter of puppies and claiming them to be purebred? It’s pretty tricky because pictures of purebred pups do not resemble their adult counterparts at all so just seeing pictures will not be convincing. They must show proof of AKC membership for both the parents and the puppies as having been certified as purebred. Be sure you get a certificate of authenticity from the American Kennel Club with the appropriate documentation. Do some research ahead of time so you know what you’re looking at when you receive it as these documents can be easily forged as well. Purebred dogs are big business these days and just like anything else worth scamming, this is no exception.

Before you start a random search for reputable breeders, go to the American Kennel Club website and look for the link of approved breeders. I personally would trust the AKC of doing their homework as they would not be putting up breeder’s websites if they haven’t been checked out thoroughly. Even with this knowledge however, do not go head on and purchase a dog outright without doing some checking on your own as well. Play it safe throughout the whole process and if anything feels funny about the way the breeder does business, don’t ignore that feeling. Do a little more research to find out if what they’re doing is common practice among all breeders. Pretend that you are buying a car and that you want to make the best deal possible for what you’re getting even though what you get is far more precious than just a car.

Before you consider the sale complete, have the dog checked out thoroughly by your veterinarian to ensure that he is as healthy as the breeders documents claim him to be. If there is any discrepancy, speak to the seller and discuss what (if anything) needs to be done. There is a chance that the original vet check was indeed valid, and if it is only a minor injury or slight issue, keeping the dog might not be that big of a deal, but you should have part of your purchase price refunded to offset this medical care. Be careful, know what you are looking for and be wary of any thing that sounds far too good to be true.
