Why The Best Mange Home Remedy For Dog Mange Could Relieve Itching

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Understanding why the best mange home remedy for dog mange works is an article that explains the scientific principles that allow certain home made remedies to relieve the suffering caused by mange.

In cage DL the newest arrival quivers from painful itching, and when the dog cannot tolerate the itching any longer it bites another patch of dried skin. Up to now, attempts to control the dryness and itching have not worked. Do homemade remedies work? How do the dogs react to side effects? Can these remedies bring back a shiny coat? These questions occupy the thoughts of pet owners.

Borax And Hydrogen Peroxide As A Remedy

One remedy, a hydrogen peroxide and borax solution, drills down into the skin, dries out then kills the parasite that causes mange. It kills the unseen cause of this skin disease. The peroxide seeps in, pulls in the borax and borax kills the parasite. The exact formula for this doggy dip is, well, inexact. But, between four and eight teaspoons of borax poured into one liter (or one quart) of hydrogen peroxide and stirred until the borax dissolves make a very nice doggy dip. Simply said, just pour some borax powder into a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and stir them together. And yes this is the same borax powder our great, great grandmothers used to wash their laundry clothes.

But there are many, many caveats. Here are the top seven caveats. Do not splash this solution in the eyes of a person or dog. Do not drink this solution yourself and do not let other people drink and do not let a dog drink this solution. Do not use boric acid because boric acid is too poisonous; use only borax powder. Do not use hydrogen peroxide that is stronger than one percent concentration (the percent is written on the hydrogen peroxide bottle.) If you cannot find one percent hydrogen peroxide then just get one gallon (or four liters) of water and pour two to four cups of borax powder into the water and then stir. Do not use any other form or type of peroxide; only use hydrogen peroxide.

Let the sun and wind dry the solution that you pour on the dog. Pour the solution onto the skin of the dog that has the mange disease in the skin. Do this daily or weekly for thirty days in a row. Let the mangy patch of skin stay wet until it dries by itself.

Soap And Mange

Another best home treatment for mange is water that is mildly soapy. Soap with water drowns tiny bugs. The amount of soap dissolved in the water should be one part per hundred (one percent). One cup of soap added to ninety nine cups of water creates a one part per hundred concentration. Two cups of soap per ninety eight cups of water make a two parts per hundred concentration. A century ago people used a one or two percent solution of soapy water to kill tiny insects. Do not rinse off the soapy water from your dog until five or ten minutes have passed. Leaving the soap to sit drowns insects on skin and inside the fur.

Oil Treatment For Mange

Another best home remedy applies oily substances lathered on mangy mutts. Basically, oil deprives insects of air and suffocates them. Oil in different forms is commonly found in the home. Butter, margarine, hair grease, fat meat grease, safflower oil, corn oil, baby oil, mineral oil, castor oil, soybean oil, olive oil, and sunflower oil will smother insects. Mint oil at four percent concentration kills insects like an insecticide and should never be used for animal use. Neem oil is a potent substance.

Clean Living Area As A Remedy

Prevent other new parasites from attacking a dog by removing parasites from floors, toys beds, and so forth. Frequent or regular cleaning and washing removes parasites. Whenever bathing the dog, feel with the fingers or look with the eyes. Notice bumps, raw patches, abrasions, rashes, and rough skin. Big leathery patches in dog skin especially legs or ears might be mange.

Science Behind Home Style Treatments

Home style dog care mentioned in this short article conforms to basic principles of the science of pet care. These treatments accomplish the following tasks.

To kill parasites that cannot be seen.

To kill parasites than can be seen.

To prevent new parasites from infesting the host.

External parasites known as mites cause the uncomfortable skin ailment known as mange. Other more well known external parasites are the flea and the mosquito. Mites lodge themselves under the skin where they cannot be easily seen. In summary, the borax and peroxide solution kills the mites under the skin. Oil and soap suffocate and drown any mites on the surface of the skin. Keeping the living are free of mites blocks them from returning to the dog.

How The Best Mange Home Remedy For Dog Mange can help a dog is an article that describes a small selection of home remedies for mange and shows the science that gives them their effectiveness. These four home remedies for mange owe their effectiveness to real science.

A Quick Guide To Learn How To Treat Ear Mites Effectively Easily

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Pets can be afflicted by an array of parasites and pests. There is typically treatment and preventative measures for all kinds. Ear mites are no different. It is important for pet owners to learn how to treat ear mites in order to keep their pets healthy.

Ear mites are a microscopic organism very similar to dust mites. Unlike the name suggests, these critters can live elsewhere on the body of the animal, not just the ear canal. They are not contagious to humans. However, they are highly contagious to other pets. They are transferred between animals through physical contact with an infected animal.

Pets should have their ears cleaned on a regular basis. Equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water is a good solution for cleaning ears. Washing out the ears with a cotton swab that is lightly damp with this solution is an easy way to clean ears. Be sure to use different swabs per ear. Infections can be spread from one ear to the other if the same swab is used. The ear canal does not need cleaning. Only the parts of the ears that can be seen.

The most common symptoms of mite infestation is that the animal will shake its head or scratch its ears. The more often this happens, the more of an infestation there is. This is due to mites causing an inflammation within the ear canal which irritates the pet. Dried blood, which looks like coffee grounds, can also be a discharge from pet ears. This is another sign of infestation. Sometimes the blood can be fresh and not dry. Pets can also suffer from improper balance and not walking in straight lines. It is similar to humans who have inner ear problems. Mites do not only affect the area of their name, but can be anywhere. However, the animal may or may not be bothered mites that are external.

If the problem is left untreated, animals can get damage to the ear canal and ear drums. This can result in permanent hearing loss. Also, ear infections and skin disease can be a result of infection.

There are different types of over the counter medication that is readily available. These take three to four weeks to treat the problem. They do not have an ingredient in them that kills mite eggs. They typically are a liquid solution.

Prescription medication takes anywhere from ten to fourteen days because it does kill mite eggs. These medications come as drops or injections. They have to be obtained by a veterinarian.

Flea and tick medications, like shampoos and drops, will kill mites that are outside the pets ears. A pet on a flea treatment should not have mites on their body.

If there are multiple pets in the house, it is important to treat all of them simultaneously. This will ensure that all mites are killed and repeat infestations do not occur. Since they are so contagious, if one pet is not treated, the cycle will just keep repeating itself.

If an animal does suffer from repeat infestations, the animal should be taken to the veterinarian. The same is true if the pet has severe symptoms or needs prescription treatment.

This is an easy pest to treat and get rid of. It is important that a pet owner learn how to treat ear mites. This will help keep the pet healthy and prevent more serious damage that could arise when the problem is left untreated.

Ways To Cure Mange With A Non Toxic Mange Medicine

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Many animal lovers have had their dog’s hair suddenly start to fall out and sores appear. This disease, mange, is very contagious to other animals and needs to be treated immediately. When humans get the disease it is called Demodicosis but is usually cured quite rapidly. The disease is caused by mite infestation can causes loss of hair and other problems. In looking for treatment for this condition it is important to try to find a way to cure mange with non toxic mange medicine.

There are different, specific types of mange mites. The Red Mange Mites, Demodectic Mange Mites (which infect cats) and Scarcopic Mange Mites. The latter type is the most infectious. The severity of the infection in dogs is usually shown by loss of hair in a small patch of skin or on the majority parts of the body.

Intensive scratching will show that the animal is suffering from a great deal of itching. These areas will eventually become crusty and will bleed if scratching continues. If this is not stopped it can become life threatening and require immediate professional attention.

Treatment of the disease has several options. Although there are several medications on the market the only one approved by the FDA is the Mitaban Dip. It is simple to use and comes in a concentrated form, which is added to water prior to application. Since the mites are lodged in the hair follicle, all hair in the general area needs to be removed prior to treatment. Unfortunately, it has been found that this medication is toxic to many dogs, especially small ones so caution must be taken. Side effects, which might be experienced, are loss of appetite, vomiting diarrhea and fever. If this occurs, even more medicine must be administered to counteract these affects.

If home medication and treatment does not bring about a cure, the condition can become life threatening. In this case a veterinarian must be called. Antibiotics, Amitraz Dips and other oral medications might be required. Again, there is no assurance that some dogs might not react favorable to this treatment as each one is different.

In the old days dipping was the favored treatment for mange. Everything from sheep dip to cattle medicine was tried. Some methods obviously succeeded, others did not. If deciding to try the dip method it is important that the animal first be shampooed with an anti-bacterial shampoo. After completing the dip, the animal should not be rinsed. Interesting testimonials can be found on the Internet regarding treatments that people claim have been very effective.

These people claim that a combination of borax, peroxide and warm water have brought about a cure when all else failed. It is also said that this has resulted in the regrowth of hair and clearing up all scabs and other broken skin. Before trying any treatment of this kind, it is important that contact be made with someone who has used this method to see if it would work in any specific case.

Comfort of a pet is very important in the family. When the pet develops a disease one wishes to find the quickest way possible to make them well again. However, if the wrong treatment is chosen it can sometimes have toxic effects. For this reason, one should always try to cure mange with a non toxic mange medicine.

Mange is a very nasty illness and is usually found in canines but, on occasion, it has also been found in humans. Cure Mange now with our super inside scoop on Mange Medicine .

However when examination determines that ear mites are the problem then one can to try to find an ear mite treatment for pets.

Ear mites do not just appear, they are transmitted from one animal to another. If other animals are in the home than any treatment chosen should also be applied to them as well. Living in the ear canal, mites exist in a dark, crumbly material similar to coffee grounds. When removing some of this material mites appear as small white dots almost invisible to the eye. If a microscope is available, they are very easily identified.

As with many parasites of this type, mites can multiply very rapidly. When eggs are laid it only takes four days for the mites to emerge. They, in turn, rapidly develop into adults, mate and produce more eggs. Unfortunately, if not properly destroyed they can go outside of the ear to the head and eyes.

Some applications are one time, take 10 days or 30 days depending on which type used. Whichever is used completing the length of treatment, even if the symptoms seem to be gone, is essential if the problem is to be completely eradicated.

Prescription medications may contain such things as Acarexx, Melbnite, Tresaderm, or others. Injection medication usually contains Ivermectin. Most over-the-counter drugs usually include insecticides. It is important that it be determined before any drug is applied if the pet is allergic or will have an adverse reaction.

Placing a few drops of warm oil in the pet’s ear has been suggested. This will soften the debris and make it easier to remove. It will also immobilize the mites for a brief period and make them more removable with the other material. When the substance is removed, it is suggested that it be burned or destroyed in a permanent manner to avoid the mites transferring to another location.

When a pet has been in the family for a long period of time it becomes a regular member. As with any family member, when something makes them uncomfortable or threatens their good health, relief must be sought immediately. Mange Treatment for Demodectic Mange

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

A good effective Mange Treatment will depend on the type of mange your pet has. It can either be Demodectic Mange or Sarcoptic Mange. Depending on how severe your pet has mange, depends on how you should treat for mange. You also have the option of a Mange treatment that includes traditional Toxic treatments, Non Toxic topical mange treatments or treating with home remedies you find on the internet. Learn before you move forward. Your loving pet may be a risk and perhaps die if you are not careful.

Whatever mange treatment you decide on, it should always be a two step process if you want to help your pet the best way. You should first treat the infection if it is present and then second, you need to use a mange treatment that will kill the mange mites that are causing your pet to itch and misery. Knowing what to do is the first step.

Demodectic Mange is much harder to treat than Sarcoptic Mange because infection is usually present. Symptoms of infection consist of red inflammed skin and your pet has a foul smell. If it has a septic smell, chances are your pet has infection. Infection usually follows a mange mite infestation because the mange mites are burrowed deep into the hair follicles. The feces and body parts from the mites is what causes the infection.

You want to get control of the infection right away. You can most likely do that by using non toxic topical products currently on the market by people who specialize in mange treatments. Your pets immune system can’t fight the infection at this point and it needs help by using non toxic products such as medicated body washes made of benzalchonium chloride. Beware of toxic products or mange treatments that is so strong, it will burn your pets already inflammed skin! You want to stop the infection as quickly as possible and not cause more skin problems. If the infection is bad enough, the infection could get into your pets blood stream and your pet would then have to be treated orally with antibiotics.

Finding an effective Mange Treatment to kill the mites using non toxic topical products is also critical. You don’t have to make your pet sicker by applying toxic dips or giving him oral toxic medications such as ivermectin. These toxic products reduces your pets immune system even more. The mites are there doing damage in the first place because your pets immune system has already been compromised; that’s why it can’t fight back the mites. So why make it worse?

The reason that Demodectic Mange is much harder to treat than Sarcoptic Mange is because the mange mites are buried deep into the hair folicles while Sarcopitc Mange Mites burrow themselves just below the first few layers of skin. A mange treatment for Sarcoptic mange will usually last about 2 weeks, while treating mange for demodectic mange can last months.

Whether you are treating for Demodectic or Sarcoptic Mange, your pets Mange treatment should continue several weeks after symptoms stop and you begin seeing the hair growing back. I also recommend putting your pet on a good vitamin to boost it’s immune system.

Pets with mange symptoms are required to be isolated away from other pets to avoid cross contamination. Wash your pets bedding daily and keep your pet out of your own bed. Thoroughly clean a good Disinfectant Spray. Do not reintroduce the bedding, toys or any other items that the pet usually uses until the infestation has been contained and treated. If your pet gets reinfested with mange mites or the pet is not treated, the bed cleaning will have to be repeated again and again until the pet is mange-free.

Mange Treatments To Heal An Afflicted Animal

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Mange is a skin condition that includes scabies, red mange, ear mite infections and cheyletiella which is caused by mites in mostly dogs and cats. The veterinarian can offer the right advice and provide the correct Mange Medicine for your pet.

There are many varieties of mites that adversely affect live stock, dogs and cats. Some of them even affect people and are a cause for concern. There are three mites that need to be checked by the vet since they may cause sever health issues for your pet and they are ear mites, Demodex mange mites and Sacoptic Mange mites.

One of the first symptoms that a dog with Scabies will present is a crusting of the skin on the ear. Intense irritation can be caused by the Notoedres Mite and Sarcoptic Mange can also affect humans. With all of the intense itching it is possible for the mites get transferred to humans and cause them to itch as well, however, the symptoms will disappear in a couple of weeks if the pet is disinfected.

Staying aware of the types of symptoms that develop with your pet is important because, not only can the discomfort be quite severe, but if gone untreated for too long, the Mange could lead to other types of bacterial infections. In severe cases, be sure to have the vet monitor your pet’s progress.

The vet will need to give the pet periodic injections of Ivermectin for a up to four weeks. Bath your pet with dandruff shampoos and dab the affected area with insecticides recommended by the pet. The steroid cortisone and antibiotic creams would relieve the redness and itching.

A type of mange that is not contagious is the Demodex variation. But many of the symptoms the animal has are the same as the other types of mange. There is the same amount of itching, irritation and discomfort with Demodex, and again, it is urgent to get it treated quickly as once the bald patches of skin begin showing, it is quite possible for the animal to develop a secondary infection.

Not all dogs and cats are affected by this mite but some of them are severely affected and this is caused by hormonal changes, suppressed immunity system or a genetic disorder. This disorder is seen mostly in pups going through hormonal changes and most animals recover from it without treatment.

Baths are excellent for treating and soothing a pet who is afflicted with Mange. You should also use any tonics or vitamins that you get recommendations about from your veterinarian. There are several vitamin choices that will help boost your pet’s immune system and make him less likely to suffer for too long.

Be very careful with treatment for your cat with Mange. Cats are much more sensitive to chemicals than are dogs, so it is imperative that you first discuss with your vet any treatments you plan on trying out for your cat.

Homeopathic treatments are a popular choice for many pet owners and they can be a good choice for pets that have sensitivity to certain medications. But, again, the first course of action is to talk to your vet. Of course the most important thing is the proper care, nutrition and cleansing of your pet to help prevent him from getting any of the varieties of Mange ever again.

If your dog has mange and needs a remedy or medicine to help, you should find a mange spray. There are tons of mange medicine that you can find on the Internet that could help.

The Things I Can’t Stand About Pet Door Replacement Flaps

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I am a pet lover and have 3 dogs who all need to go outside almost all of the time for various things.

To help me out from going crazy, I had two of the pet doors installed in our home, making it easy for them to come and go whenever they wanted to.

It seems though that I must really enjoying buying pet door replacement flaps. Considering ours break down every 6 months or so it’s not surprising.

So I go down to the pet shop to buy more replacement flaps. Ho Hum. Funnily enough, because I am in there nearly every few weeks, the store owner calls me by my first name.

When I get in the store, Jim who owns it knows exactly what I am looking for, trying not to laugh about it. I’d laugh too if it wasn’t so heart breaking and frustrating. So much for my dogs loving chasing butterflies.

So after parting with over $40, Jim sells me the flaps and go on my way. It would be nice though if the flaps lived just a little bit longer.

The main problem is that they wear too quickly. The hinges start to fail through all their repeated use, and often break or crack rendering them useless or poor performing.

Sometimes my dogs enjoy a good old chew on the flap itself.

Once they begin to wear, the cold air can then get in. As a consequence of this, it gets cold inside, and the flaps begin to make noises in the night time.

We once tried switching to magnetic flaps, but found that once they wear (the cheap ones anyway), the noise they make when they rattle is far louder and more annoying,

Our dogs hate it when the cold comes in, and most of the time we have to let the dogs come into our room at night to keep out of the draft.

On a few occasions we have even had the neighbors dog come in through the flap and proceed to mark his proposed territory. Now that really isn’t funny, let me tell you!

So, until recently, I’d say that we’ve been living in a stressful environment, just getting along with for the sake of getting along with it.

More recently we have researched modern brands, especially modern brands which are more expensive and have lot’s of exciting features.

This has actually inspired us to look at things in a new light, and because of this we strongly recommend you consider a well known brand for yourself.

Woah! Do not buy low-cost and poor quality pet door replacement flaps any more. It’s critical that you find out which are the best and how much time and energy they can save you. It’s your purse, so make it smile by picking the best pet door replacement flaps.

Suggestions on Getting a Pet for Family

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

There are a lot of parents who love to buy pets for their kids as kids love them and hence they have to consider which pet would be the safest for their child. Here are a number of pets that have been listed as a possible option for you to choose from and make your kid quite happy and joyous. Some of the pets are okay for kids while others may prove to be dangerous. This is what should prompt you to get adequate details before making your choice.

Fishes: Fishes are the least harmful and hence an excellent choice for pets for your kids. They just stay inside the water and yet kids can feed them and also look at them. Fishes are also quite inexpensive to buy so that you need not wait before buying them. They also do not demand too much maintenance. You have just to take care of the quantity of food and the feeding time.

You have to be careful with delicate varieties that can die if they overeat. It is also a problem that fish are seen to die after a les span of time. This is why if your kid gets attached it could be a problem. Kids also like to hold their pets but with fish this is quite impossible.

Rodents: Small rodents like hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice and guinea pigs can be another choice while choosing the pen animal. These are small and children can even touch them and play with them. You can easily put them somewhere in the house and does not require too much maintenance. You would have to take care because they have the nature of biting and chewing whenever they are troubled. These are very energetic at nights when your kids would be asleep so make sure when you choose them as your pets.

Rabbits: These are also quite playful like rodents even though a tad bigger. It is possible to not only cuddle up to them, but kids can also play with them all day long. They also like to enjoy the exercise with kids. It may be a problem to catch these swift creatures though. If you are not careful they may end up chewing up your doors as well as cords.

In addition you can look at chicks, birds, puppies and kittens as pet animals which have some advantage and disadvantages also. These need to be well analyzed before you make your choice.
